The word Ayurveda is composed of two
terms. Ayush means life Veda means knowledge. Thus Ayurveda means the knowledge of life.This system of treatment is 5000years old. This system has a holistic approach towards the diseases.
Ayurveda uses Herbs, Minerals & Metals in the preparation of medicines. Over 3000 plants are documented in ancient texts and the molecules derived from these herbs are used even in modern medicine.
These herbs can be classified into Aromatic herbs, Cosmetic herbs, Herbal food, Herbal oils and Herbs with therapeutic
value, which are used in manufacturing cosmetics, food supplements and medicines. However each herb has more than one use.
India with its vast biodiversity is the HERBAL GARDEN OF THE
WORLD.
A large varities of herbs are being exported from India for use in Pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry.
